The ASA has banned all the advertisements running which featured Marvel's comic book hero Spiderman. The authority received numerous complaints by parents, who stated that their children are interested in the offerings of 888 Holdings. The ASA ruled that the ad indeed has "particular appeal to children and young people".
According to the ASA, they are confident that minors cannot access the 888 Holdings offerings as newly registered users have to verify they are above 18 years. On the other hand, the advertisements were linked to websites that have no age restriction whatsoever. The ASA also acknowlgeded that Spiderman is very popular amongst adults, but they state that it appeals to children even more.
The ASA noted that the advertisement's comic-book style was a breach of the code put forth by the Committee of Advertising Practice, therefore, they cannot allow it to be displayed any longer. They warned the Gibraltar-based Cassava Enterprises, the financial branch of 888.com to not use any material containing motifs and symbols that might be appealing to minors.
