Gus Hansen Has a Nice Start so far in 2011

2011. February 08.
Our online poker news seldom tell the tale of Gus Hansen scoring big, but 2011 seems to be his year so far, as the Danish pro is the first to have reached the million-dollar limit this year.
Gus Hansen has been one of the leading poker players so far, with one WSOP and three WPT titles, and live tournament winnings making $9,102,527, which puts him in place 16 on the all-time winnings leaderboard. However, Gus seems to have troubles with online high stakes cash games, although he pushes hard. He has played 982,241 hands between 1st January 2007 and 31st December 2010. His results are as follows: down $728,395 in 2007, lost $619,188 in 2008, let go of an astonishing $5,575,624 in 2009 and $1,015,253 in 2010. This makes a huge total of $7,938,461 (please note that these numbers are according to data by Highstakesdb, and the site does not track all game types).

As not too much time has passed in 2011 yet, it would not be appropriate to conclude far-fetched statements, but it seems so far, that Hansen finally caught up with online nosebleed gameplay, and is the biggest winner of the year at the moment with a $1,351,019 profit (runner-up is Patrik Antonius with $919,443). His success is mostly due to the popularity increase of the PLO Cap game type, and the Dane obviously prefers this game, spending almost all his poker sessions at PLO Cap tables.

Gus has acquired the January high stakes crown with a $879,992 income, and has a $446,168 in February already. This is mostly because of his Monday session against Daniel 'jungleman12' Cates at $500/$1000 PLO Cap heads-up tables.

According to the news, Hansen didn't have to complain about bad luck, and jungleman12 (very rarely seen on tilt) lost his head a couple of times, which could be witnessed in the chat window following the last hand. (Gus Hansen admitted that the hand was 'sick' and jungleman12 told him that he was about to go mad, to which Gus also admitted that the way he played the hand was probably very bad, and logged out, promising to continue later).

In the end, Hansen closed the day with a $335,173 profit, but did not take long to return, he is waiting for opponents at a $500/$1000 PLO Cap table at the very moment.
