Questionable Method to Win PokerStars’ 70 Billionth Hand Promotion
November 04, 2011’Koenigskebap’ won the 70 billionth hand at PokerStars for $73,000 as part of the room’s “Road to 100 Billion” promotion. His success, however, is disputed on the basis of the hand history of the table leading up to the milestone hand.

Friday in the morning, it came down at PokerStars to the 70 billionth hand dealt, the latest milestone in their “Road to 100 Billion” promotion. The room was once again giving out insane prizes, including the guaranteed $70,000 for the winner of the milestone hand. This occurred on a NL50 HU table, where there were ’koenigskebap’ and ‘DodgeUrOuts’ playing.
In the 70 billionth hand, the stacks were pushed preflop:
koenigskebap:
A
J DodgeUrOuts:
K
5 Board:
A
4
2
K
6 ‘Koenigskebap’ won with top pair, earning $73,380 in total, while ‘DodgeUrOuts’ got $1,690.
It soon became apparent, however, that the two players had not been playing legit hands but had kept open-folding, waiting for the milestone hand. Doing this on 24 tables, they dramatically increased their chances of getting dealt into the 70 billionth, with almost 10,000 hands played in an hour’s time. To top that, they did not even have to pay any rake, folding preflop.
PokerStars has not yet commented the issue but ultimately, it will be their decision to count this as cheating or not. According to the terms and conditions of the promotion, “(8.) PokerStars reserves the right to take action against any player found to be abusing any aspect of the Promotion. Such action includes, but is not limited to, exclusion or suspension from the Promotion or from the Client, and the confiscation of rewards earned as a result of the abuse.”
