2010 Poker Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

2010. September 02.
The public voting for the 2010 Nominees of the Poker Hall of Fame has just ended, and the list containing the ten names did not bring real surprises. This year has been the second time that the nominees were chosen by a public voting procedure.
The list has been made official yesterday.

Below you can see last year’s chosen one, Mike Sexton being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

The 2010 Nominees are:

Chris Ferguson
Barry Greenstein
Jennifer Harman
Dan Harrington
Phil Ivey
Linda Johnson
Tom McEvoy
Daniel Negreanu
Scotty Nguyen
Erik Seidel

The title would basically fit every nominee, as all of these players have incredible results to justify their future Hall of Fame membership. What did come as a surprise is, that while last year’s list only contained male players, this year we can see two females nominated as well.

Jennifer Harman is one of the most successful female players, two-time WSOP champion, with her live career earnings exceeding $2.6 million. She is a prosperous cash game player as well, being a frequent guest at Bobby’s Room in Las Vegas.

The other female nominee, Linda Johnson is a very successful poker player as well, although her results do not match Harman’s. Johnson, however, has other aspects to be famed for: as the first lady of poker, she is a recognized background worker in the poker world. She was one of the founders at CardPlayer magazine, the Tournament Directors Association and the PokerGives.org charitable foundation, and works as a consultant for the WPT series.

The younger generation is represented by 4-time WSOP winner Daniel Negreanu and 8-time champion Phil Ivey, who together age 70, which almost equals the age of the two doyens, Tom McEnvoy and Dan Harrington. Their young age is the only reason that we would be surprised to see them inducted into the Hall of Fame; they will have plenty opportunities later.

The living members of the Poker Hall of Fame and other media people will chose the maximum two players to be the newly recruited members of the poker elite. The one(s) chosen will take part in an official induction ceremony, to be held in November, at the time of the WSOP Final Table. Voting will take place on the 13th September.
