Reality Poker Shows Are Back: The Big Game on Tour and Game of Gold

The end of this year brings many exciting announcements in the poker world. One of the most significant announcements is the return of iconic poker reality shows. PokerStars and GGPoker bring to life the thrill and victory in poker games with the return of The Big Game (TBG) and the Game of Gold (GoG). Join us as we dive into these shows to see what’s in store.

PokerStars’ TBG on Tour

PokerStars is bringing back its iconic TBG show, now called The Big Game on Tour. Like when it was first released in 2010, the show will feature a six-handed cash game table as the main event. Five seats are given to professional guest players, while the sixth is reserved for Loose Cannon, an amateur player.

This show is finally back after a 12-year hiatus due to the US Department of Justice seizing the domain in 2011 during poker’s Black Friday. However, not much has changed with the primary change being the qualification process.

PokerStars will now introduce exclusive satellites at NAPT Las Vegas. Around 20 contestants will qualify for the audition in front of a panel of judges, but only two will earn a $50,000 buy-in and proceed to be in the show.

GGPoker and Poker After Dark

Besides the revival of PokerStars’ more-than-a-decade-old show, GGPoker celebrates the end of the year with a brand new show, Game of Gold. Partnering with Poker After Dark to bring this show to life, players can look forward to something fresh, thrilling, and full of high stakes.

GGPoker’s GoG

GoG will have 12 episodes, with episode one airing on November 10th. The latest episode, Episode 2: The Added Pressure, aired on the 13th of November, starting the games for real. All the episodes will air on GGPoker’s official YouTube channel, GGPoker.tv.

Ali Nejad, a renowned poker broadcaster, hosts this show in Seoul, South Korea, presenting a brand-new, innovative format. Let the games begin as 16 players compete in various formats to rise to the top. Fans will see big names like Jason Koon, Maria Ho, and Daniel Negreanu on the show, along with Fedor Holz, Andy Tsai, and Nikita Luther.

However, what makes this show so thrilling and nerve-wracking is the survivor aspect of it. Players work in teams for specific games and eliminate other players who fall short at the poker table. A cash prize of $456k is awarded to the overall winner. However, to get there, they must remain the last one standing.

Enjoy Poker Like Never Before

Looking at both shows, we can’t help but gravitate towards GoG. The unique blend of reality TV and traditional poker brings a brand-new type of reality poker show to life. PokerStars redeployed its older TV format, maybe in an attempt to stay true to the original show.

However, we would prefer a more modern approach and new elements. GGPoker truly shows why it has the advantage in traffic over PokerStars. GGPoker is quicker and more creative than its opponents, developing a new TV poker format and other innovative events and features.
