EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final 2013 - Steve O’Dwyer Wins

Steve O’Dwyer won the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event. The Irish pro scooped in a first prize of €1,224,000.
The seat draw of the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event Final Table was as follows:

The first elimination took place on Level 26 (5,000/20,000/40,000), when Andrew Pantling opened to 83,000 with {#}J {#}T . Grant Levy 3-bet to 205,000 with {#}A {#}K and Pantling called, after it was folded down to him. The flop came {#}3 {#}J {#}7 , Pantling checked, Levy shoved with 400,000 and Pantling snap-called. The turn was {#}A and the river {#}8 to give Pantling a flush.

About an hour later but still on the same level, Johnny Lodden opened to 80,000 from the CO and got 3-bet all-in with 650,000 by Jason Mercier in the SB. Pantling in the BB called and Lodden folded. Mercier showed Q-T against Pantling’s A-Q and the board came neutral. Mercier finished 7th.

On Level 27 (5,000/25,000/50,000), Daniel Negreanu attacked from the CO with a 115,000 open raise. Noah Schwartz shoved with 630,000 from the Button and Jake Cody also pushed with his 860,000 in chips. Negreanu called.

It was still the Canadian to be railed next: the five-time WSOP champion dropped back and eventually shoved his remaining 1.3 million in chips on Lodden’s 110,000 open from UTG and Pantling’s call from the Button. Only Lodden called.

On Level 28 (10,000/30,000/60,000), Steve O’Dwyer opened to 150,000 from the Button with {#}A {#}T , Lodden 3-bet to 400,000 with {#}A {#}J from the SB and O’Dwyer called. The flop came {#}7 {#}4 {#}T , Lodden bet 350,000 and O’Dwyer called. On the {#}3 turn, Lodden shoved his remaining 1,450,000 and O’Dwyer insta-called. Lodden drew dead to a J but the river came {#}K .

Pantling had a slight edge in the beginning of the heads-up but the Irish took the lead soon and gained a considerable edge of three times the Canadian’s stack, winning a huge pot with three aces against Pantling’s two pairs.

A couple of minutes later, the tournament was over: O’Dwyer opened to 240,000, Pantling called and the flop came {#}8 {#}8 {#}J . Pantling check-called 300,000 and the turn was {#}4 . Pantling checked again, O’Dwyer bet 600,000, Pantling raised to 1,425,000, O’Dwyer 3-bet all-in and Pantling called.
