Negreanu Wins WSOP APAC Main Event for 5th Bracelet

Daniel Negreanu won the first ever WSOP APAC Main Event. The Canadian pro had the lead almost all the way from start to finish and eventually bested Australian Daniel Marton heads-up.
On Day 5 of the WSOP APAC AU$10,000 Main Event, the eight-handed final table was played. EPT London 2011 winner Benny Spindler started in the chiplead, just ahead of four times WSOP champion Daniel Negreanu.

Play started on Level 22 but no elimination took place before Level 24 (5,000/15,000/30,000), when WSOP 2012 Main Event 4th finisher Russell Thomas got railed. George Tsatsis opened to 70,000 from hijack, Thomas from the BB shoved and Tsatsis called.

Tsatsis won with a better kicker.

By Level 25 (5,000/20,000/40,000), before which the players went to the dinner break, Negreanu was already in the chiplead, sitting at the time behind 4,615,000 in chips after several big pots.

Resuming the game, shortstack Mikel Habb went all-in from the Button and got called by Winfred Yu after tanking a bit.

Yu won with top two pairs and Habb got eliminated in 7th place.

In the next hand, Spindler shoved from the CO and Kahle Burns had his opponent’s stack counted to call the 535,000.

With the flopped king, Spindler was out.

In the 131st hand of the finale, on Level 26 (5,000/25,000/50,000), shortstack Burns from the CO pushed his chips to the middle with {#}Q {#}J . Negreanu, already having a major edge, called on {#}A {#}K and the board came neutral.

After 1.5 hours of four-handed play, Negreanu opened to 130,000 from UTG on Level 27 (10,000/30,000/60,000), Tsatsis 3-bet to 290,000 from the Button and Negreanu called. The flop came {#}Q {#}J {#}J , Tsatsis bet 275,000 and Negreanu check-called. The Canadian also checked the {#}4 turn, Tsatsis bet 510,000, Negreanu shoved and Tsatsis insta-called.

Negreanu improved to top full house on the river and Tsatsis was out.

Yu, who showed off an incredible series of doubling up eight times but could not manage for a ninth occasion: he opened to 150,000 from the Button in his last hand, Negreanu called from the BB and the flop came {#}2 {#}8 {#}A . Negreanu checked, Yu shoved and Negreanu called.

Negreanu won with a flush and had an incredible lead in the beginning of the heads-up:

Marton managed to hold for about half an hour but he never really had a chance to come back. In the last hand, he raised to 125,000, Negreanu went all-in and Marton called.
