Benny Spindler rewriting the rules of poker

<br />Benny Spindler is a young German poker pro who has plenty of impressive scores both in the live and online arena. He has an EPT title, a 3rd place finish in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event as well as a SCOOP title. In the following video he shows why he is considered one of the biggest talents in poker.
The following video was part of the "Greatest Poker Hands" vote that PokerStars held and turned out to be one of the most popular entries. Even poker veterans who think they have seen everything the game has to offer should watch this video, because it might be the craziest hand ever caught on camera.

The hand starts off with a raise from Mattias Bergstrom with {#}4 {#}4. Spindler decides to 3bet with his {#}K {#}J, and then things start to get interesting. Paul Foltyn senses some weakness from Benny and decides to cold 4-bet with {#}A {#}6 in hope of taking down the pot.

Both players start the hand with pretty deep stacks, and maybe that's why Benny decides to turn the heat up with a 5-bet. A decade ago a re-raise meant strong holdings like Ace-King or pocket Queens, and a 4-bet was Aces or Kings almost 100% of the time. Nowadays, players are attacking any signs of weakness and re-raising with rags if they feel that they can put pressure on their opponents.

Foltyn knows that Spindler is capable of crazy plays and willing to make moves, and decides to go for the 6-bet, investing almost half of his stack into the bluff.

Spindler looks at his opponents stack, thinks for a short while then announces all-in. Foltyn has committed so much of his stack that it seems like he is really considering calling all-in for a moment, but in the end decides that Splinder has to have a stronger hand than him and folds.

Spindler immediately shows the bluff and rakes in the huge pot. This hand is a prime example of the aggressive playing style that is so popular nowadays. For high level players like Spindler and Foltyn the game becomes about situations, not about cards.

Spindler is well aware of his crazy image at the table and thought that Foltyn was good enough to make a 4-bet bluff, that's why he decided to 5-bet with his measly King-Jack offsuit. Foltyn knows that he can't call the raise, but believes that Spindler might be making a move so he goes for the 6-bet bluff.

It's hard to tell whether Spindler was able to go one level "deeper" in the raising war and figured that Foltyn was full of it, or if he just picked up a live tell that helped him make the bluff, but he manages to pull the trigger and put his opponent all-in.

Poker is truly a beautiful game and this battle of genius poker minds show once again that even though there is a luck factor involved, poker is a skill game where players who can outsmart their opponents are bound to win more money in the long run.
